Algirdas Butkevičius from Biržai is a self-taught wood carver. He's a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists Union, holds the status of an artist of the Republic of Lithuania, and yet he does not count his carved works. His Pensive Christ, sculptures of Saints, bas-reliefs of famous people and various decorative wood carvings are present with the artist in his workshop.
Roof pillars and large wooden sculptures adorn Juodkrante, Biržai, Likėnai. Feelings of national pride are evoked by the oaks artistically touched by A. Butkevičius for the exile victims and to mark the Baltic Way event.
There are over 1000 various wood carved works in the "Medinukai" Galery of A. Butkevičius.
